Product Description

JBL PRONOVO TANGANYIKA GRANO M

Main aquarium food pellets for predatory cichlids from Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi, 8–20 cm

  • Prebiotic & sinking aquarium fish food: Special dietary fibers in the food provide nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria, promoting healthy digestion
  • Natural raw materials without artificial additives for a diet close to nature and healthy cichlids. Tested during JBL research expeditions in Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi with species found at depths of up to 40 m
  • Very high acceptance even among picky cichlid species thanks to high-quality ingredients such as salmon and shrimp
  • Contains very high-quality natural astaxanthin from krill and spirulina, which ensures perfect color development in cichlids from Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi
  • Contents: Original sealed, airtight and light-proof, recyclable can with a measuring scoop inside the lid

In the rift lakes of East Africa (Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika), many cichlids have specialized in grazing algae growth—along with the microorganisms living within it—off the rocks (herbivorous algae grazers). JBL PRONOVO MALAWI was developed for these species.
In contrast, almost all other species in both lakes are predatory and feed on fish, microorganisms, shrimp, and fish fry. Some even feed exclusively on the scales of other fish (Plecodus). JBL PRONOVO TANGANYIKA was developed for the predatory species of both lakes. If both groups are kept together in ONE aquarium, it is essential to offer both types of food. This ensures that each dietary group receives the food that is right for it.

Typical predators from Lake Tanganyika: Lamprologus, Neolamprologus, Julidochromis, Cyphotilapia, Telmatochromis, Chalinochromis
Typical predators from Lake Malawi: Trematocranus, Haplochromis, Nimbochromis, Sciaenochromis, Labidochromis

Advantages of JBL food varieties:
Use of pure fish protein without cheap fish meal.
Optimal protein-to-fat ratio.
Primarily proteins from aquatic animals.
Reduced algae growth and optimal fish growth thanks to an adjusted phosphate content.
Prebiotic: Prebiotics are “substrates that are selectively utilized by host microorganisms and confer a health benefit.” Scientists agree that they promote digestion and, consequently, health. For our fish, there is another key benefit: Better digestion results in less waste being excreted, which reduces the load on the water, leading to fewer algae problems and keeping the water cleaner.

Since the vast majority of cichlids kept from Lake Tanganyika are predatory, the food for predatory species was named PRONOVO TANGANYIKA. Since most cichlids kept in aquariums from Lake Malawi are filter feeders, JBL has named this food PRONOVO MALAWI.
