The composition of the ideal starter food for young fish depends on many factors. Young fish are growing and require essential nutrients for their development. Vital vitamins are necessary to strengthen the immune system.
For young fish, it is very important that the food size matches the size of their mouths. It is better to feed food that is too small than food that is too large! The appropriate phosphate content of the food is essential for healthy bone formation. Too little phosphate and calcium leads to bone deformities.

Once the fry are large enough, supplementing their diet with live Artemia (brine shrimp) is ideal. JBL offers a complete product line for this purpose: JBL Artemio.

When it comes to fry, a distinction is made between those of egg-laying and live-bearing species. The fry of egg-laying species are significantly smaller after hatching and initially feed on infusoria (microscopic organisms) that they find in their environment. Many species will then also accept liquid food (JBL PRONOVO BEL FLUID). Shortly thereafter, they will accept fine powdered food (JBL PRONOVO BEL GRANO BABY or the powdered food from the first packet of JBL PRONOVO BEL FLAKES BABY). Once they have grown a bit more, you can switch to the second packet of JBL PRONOVO BEL FLAKES BABY and later to the third packet. If the parent fish are caring for their fry (e.g., cichlids), a long pipette or a piece of tubing can help direct the food, dissolved in water, specifically to the fry.
For livebearing or mouthbrooding species, the fry are larger and will immediately eat the food from the second bag of JBL PRONOVO FLAKES BABY and live Artemia (JBL Artemio System).
