Product Description
JBL PROAQUATEST CO2-pH Permanent.
Continuous test for determining acidity and carbon dioxide levels in freshwater aquariums
Simple and reliable monitoring of aquarium water parameters. Continuous direct measurement of the optimal pH level and carbon dioxide content for freshwater aquariums
Continuous test for fertilizer control: Add the reagent to the continuous test device and attach it to the aquarium glass using suction cups. Compare the reagent color to the color scale sticker and read the value
Displays pH value (6.4–7.8) and CO₂ level
Package contents
: 1 CO2-pH continuous test kit, display container with suction cup, 1 reagent (+ 1 refill), and color chart sticker. Refill reagent and indicators sold separately
Valid
for 9–12 months
Recommended CO2 levels
Freshwater aquarium (community tank): 15–35 mg/l;
Malawi and Lake Tanganyika aquariums: 4–10 mg/l;
Planted aquariums with few fish (aquascaping): 20–35 mg/l
This permanent indicator test shows the aquarist the pH value and CO2 level of the aquarium water at all times through a color change.
This allows you to check 24 hours a day whether the pH level is within the optimal range and whether the plants have sufficient CO2 available as a primary nutrient throughout the day.
How exactly does the test work?
The CO2 dissolved in the aquarium water diffuses through the air column in the permanent test container into the indicator liquid it contains and dissolves there. This results in a specific pH value, which causes the indicator liquid to change color. The color corresponds to a specific pH value, and depending on the carbonate hardness of the water, you can determine whether the resulting CO2 level is too high, too low, or optimal.
If any substance other than CO₂—such as a pH-lowering or pH-raising agent (e.g., pH-Minus)—is added to the aquarium water, it cannot diffuse through the air column in the Permanent Test and therefore will NOT affect the indicator liquid. The pH value displayed in that case would therefore be incorrect. It only provides an accurate reading if there are NO other pH-affecting substances in the water besides CO2.
How long does it take for the test to display the correct reading?
Due to its design, the test is somewhat slow to respond, because the CO2 gas must first “migrate” through the air column in the test vessel into the indicator liquid before the reading can be displayed. It can therefore take up to an hour for the test to first display the current CO2 level in the aquarium water.
