Product Description
Dupla Siliphos
Siliphos is an effective iron hydroxide-based phosphate and silicate remover for marine and freshwater aquariums. The moist granules have an extremely high binding capacity and reliably solve algae problems caused by phosphates and silicates (slime algae and thread algae).
Suitable for all filter types.
Siliphos is a fine-grained material that has been used successfully for years in industry and water management, as well as in drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment. Its highly active chemical property of adsorbing large quantities of phosphates makes it an ideal filter material for aquariums. In aquariums, phosphates are produced by the decomposition of organic matter, as well as by overfeeding, plant fertilizers, or decorative materials containing phosphates. Phosphates can also enter our aquarium during a water change if tap water containing phosphates is used. Phosphate is an essential building block of living organisms, but it is harmful in high concentrations.
In marine aquariums, elevated phosphate levels inhibit calcium carbonate synthesis in stony corals and calcareous red algae. Due to nutrient enrichment, the zooxanthellae in zooxanthellate corals can multiply so rapidly that they mask the coral’s natural color pigments. The corals turn brown. Another indication of elevated phosphate and silicate (silicic acid) concentrations is the growth of troublesome red or brown algae, which often form a slimy coating over the aquarium decorations and can threaten the survival of various organisms. A PO4 level above 0.1 mg/l is unacceptable in a modern coral reef aquarium. In marine aquariums, Siliphos is also used to bind unwanted silicates.
In freshwater aquariums, the upper limit should be 0.3 mg/l. Elevated phosphate concentrations are often the cause of various algae blooms, poor plant growth, and sick fish.
180 ml for up to 720 l (at 0.5 mg PO4/l).
