Cobalt is a trace element found in low concentrations in the oceans, ranging from 0.002 μg/L in the northern Central Pacific to 0.39 μg/L in the Indian Ocean.

Cobalt is an integral component of vitamin B12, plays a fundamental role in DNA and cellular processes, and is a nutrient for macroalgae. It has been hypothesized that cobalt could be a limiting factor for bioavailability in the oceans and thus an important trace element for the health of our animals.

It is important to check the cobalt level via ICP analysis and ensure an appropriate level and stability by adding a cobalt supplement as needed.
