To properly feed carnivorous ornamental fish in an aquarium, they need energy derived from crude fat. This mimics their natural diet. The well-balanced protein-to-fat ratio ensures high digestibility of the food, thereby reducing water pollution. At the same time, Premium Protein Basic is also an excellent growth food, as the energy obtained can be converted into growth. High-quality ingredients, enrichment with essential trace elements, and a high vitamin D3 content support the health of ornamental fish and the high digestibility of the food. This makes it all the more important to adjust the amount of food to prevent obesity. Moderation in feeding is particularly important, even though the fish may give the impression of being constantly hungry, even after the third consecutive feeding.

After feeding, their bellies should still be flat, never round and full. That would be a clear sign that the fish have been overfed! It’s better to feed small portions several times a day.

With appropriately moderate feeding, the aquarium water remains clear and clean, as very few nitrates and phosphates are introduced through the food. This also reduces algae growth!

“Protein Basic” also means that you have a “basic food” with a high protein and fat content at your disposal. Since most community aquariums house both carnivorous (meat-eating) and herbivorous (plant-eating) fish together, you can tailor your fish’s diet quite precisely by supplementing with other Naturefood varieties, such as Premium Plant, Premium Cichlid, or even soft foods like Supreme Artemia or Supreme Plant, you can tailor your fish’s diet quite precisely. That’s why Naturefood offers all food varieties in different particle sizes and can sizes.

This makes their diet significantly more varied and ensures that all necessary proteins—both animal and plant-based—as well as vitamins, fats, and trace elements are available to the fish. Depending on the mix and size of your ornamental fish, you can put together the right “diet” for your fish.

For “baby fish,” we recommend Premium Protein Starter (carnivorous) or Premium Plant Starter (herbivorous)

Due to the higher digestibility of Premium Protein Basic—as with all other Naturefood products—you’ll need only about half the amount of food compared to conventional pellets.
