A healthy aquarium with natural conditions
The correct water parameters in the aquarium depend on the fish stock and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it may still be contaminated. Poor water parameters can lead to diseases or algae growth in the aquarium. To maintain a healthy aquarium with conditions close to nature, it is important to regularly monitor and adjust water parameters. For every water analysis, JBL offers water tests in the form of rapid tests or color-change tests. These determine a specific parameter or multiple parameters simultaneously. These water tests can help identify algae problems and detect elevated levels of nitrate, nitrite, potassium, magnesium, and other parameters. Why test? Silicon is one of the most common elements on Earth. As silicate rocks weather, silicon enters surface and groundwater in the form of silicate. Tap water therefore contains varying levels of dissolved silicate, depending on the composition of the subsoil in the region in question. Silicon is important for aquariums and garden ponds as a nutrient for diatoms, some aquatic plants, as well as diatom sponges and certain other invertebrates. JBL Online Lab: Regular monitoring for a healthy aquarium with conditions close to nature. Enter your water parameters in the JBL Online Lab and receive a comprehensive analysis of your values in a matter of seconds. Recommended silicate levels: Freshwater aquarium (community aquarium): 0–2.0 mg/l; Malawi and Lake Tanganyika aquariums: Since the algae-eating fish species native to these lakes readily consume diatoms, the silicate content is not a factor here. Without algae-eating fish, it should be between 0–2.0 mg/l Planted aquariums with few fish (aquascaping): 0–2.0 mg/l Marine aquariums: 0–1.0 mg/l Ponds: 0–2.0 mg/l
