JBL Sansibar RIVER Light-colored, fine substrate with black pebbles for freshwater and saltwater aquariums and terrariums

• Prevents mucous membrane injuries: Coarse-grained, rounded sand protects the sensitive barbels of bottom-dwelling fish

Optimal Substrate
The substrate is an important part of the aquarium setup, as many animals burrow and search for food in the substrate. Plants must also find a secure foothold in it and absorb nutrients from the substrate through their roots. Burrowing fish absolutely require a substrate that is not sharp-edged. A floor heater is only recommended for medium-fine to coarser substrate, as very fine substrate prevents proper water circulation.  Application Rinse the substrate under tap water to remove any abrasion caused by transport. Spread the substrate over the nutrient base (JBL AquaBasis) to promote plant growth (approx. 6–8 cm for vigorous plant growth).  Calculation Formula The correct amount of substrate: Length (cm) x Width (cm) ÷ 140 = kg of substrate at a depth of 5 cm.
