Treat your tortoise to healthy food

Tortoises are finicky eaters; they certainly won’t eat just anything, and they may even be tempted by some foods they shouldn’t consume. For example, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and meat-based foods are unsuitable.
In collaboration with Dr. Petra Kölle at Munich University of Applied Sciences, the composition and enrichment with healthy vegetables for JBL PROTERRA VEGABIL were developed. A species-appropriate mix of vegetables and other plant-based ingredients is essential. Vegetables, fruits, and even flowers should only be added to the basic plant-based diet in the right proportions—just as they are correctly and scientifically formulated in the JBL PROTERRA line with HERBIL, VEGABIL, FRUCTIL, and FLORSIL.

With JBL PROTERRA VEGABIL, your turtles receive an ideal complete diet. Of course, you’re welcome to collect greens and herbs in the summer to supplement their basic diet. The other JBL PROTERRA food varieties—HERBIL, FRUCTIL, and FLORSIL—provide an ideal and species-appropriate supplement to JBL PROTERRA HERBIL. Variety is always welcome for any turtle.

JBL expeditions often visit turtle habitats, whether in deserts or, even more frequently, in tropical wetlands. Observations of their behavior and feeding habits are incorporated into the development of JBL food products. This information, gathered directly from nature, is extremely valuable, as it is otherwise rarely available.
The goal should always be to care for the animals in a species-appropriate manner and, ideally, to breed them to reduce the need for wild-caught specimens. While captive breeding is not strictly necessary for some species—since commercially available specimens come from captive breeding or are not at risk of depletion—JBL nevertheless considers it desirable to breed pets in captivity.
