Treat your tortoise to healthy food

Tortoises are picky eaters; they certainly won’t eat just anything, and they may even be tempted by some foods they shouldn’t eat. For example, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and meat-based foods are unsuitable.
In collaboration with Dr. Petra Kölle at Munich University of Applied Sciences, the composition and enrichment of JBL PROTERRA HERBIL with tasty herbs was developed. Acceptance tests clearly showed that tortoises can distinctly differentiate between different foods offered and, in some cases, exhibit individual preferences for specific foods from the JBL PROTERRA line. After all, even if a food is perfectly balanced from a nutritional standpoint, the animal must first accept it! JBL PROTERRA HERBIL has truly succeeded in this regard.

With JBL PROTERRA HERBIL, your turtles receive an ideal complete food. Of course, you’re welcome to let them forage for greens and herbs in the summer to supplement their basic diet. The other JBL PROTERRA food varieties—VEGABIL, FRUCTIL, and FLORSIL—provide an ideal and species-appropriate complement to JBL PROTERRA HERBIL. Variety is always welcome for any turtle.

JBL expeditions often visit turtle habitats, whether in deserts or, even more frequently, in tropical wetlands. Observations of their behavior and feeding habits are incorporated into the development of JBL food products. This information, gathered directly from nature, is extremely valuable, as it is otherwise rarely available.
The goal should always be to care for the animals in a species-appropriate manner and, ideally, to breed them to reduce the need for wild-caught specimens. While captive breeding is not strictly necessary for some species—since commercially available specimens come from captive breeding or are not at risk of depletion in the wild—JBL nevertheless considers it desirable to breed pets in captivity.
