JBL ProTerra Fructil

A staple food providing a varied diet for all tortoises, containing fruit.

• 47% fruit content for a natural diet, as tortoises eat a lot of fallen fruit in the wild
• High acceptance due to the natural scent and colors of the fruit. Tortoises are highly responsive to appealing scents! High acceptance is especially important for newly acquired animals so they can quickly regain energy
• A balanced blend of natural fruits and purely plant-based loops (approx. 1 cm in diameter, containing fruits and alfalfa, spinach, beet, thyme, basil, and other herbs), as only this blend provides a species-appropriate diet
• Contains: Dried fruits (black currant, apple, mulberry, barberry) and plant loops with natural vitamins and minerals. No added colors or preservatives
• Package contents: 1 water- and light-tight container, fresh-sealed with fruit and green feed pieces ranging in size from approx. 5–20 mm. Includes a measuring scoop in the lid

Treat your tortoise to healthy food

Tortoises are finicky eaters; they certainly won’t eat just anything, and they may even be tempted by some foods they shouldn’t eat. For example, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and meat-based foods are unsuitable.
The composition of the JBL PROTERRA food line was developed in collaboration with Dr. Petra Kölle at Munich University of Applied Sciences and specialized tortoise breeders. Acceptance tests clearly showed that tortoises distinctly prefer food from the JBL PROTERRA line over all other foods offered. After all, even if a food is perfectly balanced from a nutritional standpoint, the animal must first accept it! Thanks to its natural fruit aroma and vibrant fruit colors, this is particularly evident with JBL PROTERRA FRUCTIL.

With JBL PROTERRA FRUCTIL, your turtles receive an ideal complete food. Of course, they are welcome to forage for greens and herbs in the summer to supplement their basic diet. The other JBL PROTERRA food varieties—VEGABIL, HERBIL, and FLORSIL—provide an ideal and species-appropriate complement to JBL PROTERRA FRUCTIL. Variety is always welcome for any turtle.

JBL expeditions often visit turtle habitats, whether in deserts or, even more frequently, in tropical wetlands. Observations of their behavior and feeding habits are incorporated into the development of JBL food products. This information, gathered directly from nature, is extremely valuable, as it is otherwise rarely available.
The goal should always be to care for the animals in a species-appropriate manner and, ideally, to breed them to reduce the need for wild-caught specimens. While captive breeding is not strictly necessary for some species—since commercially available specimens come from captive breeding or are not endangered in the wild—JBL nevertheless considers it desirable to breed pet animals in captivity.
