Aquascaping refers to the art of designing aquarium landscapes. This can result in imaginative plant arrangements, recreations of terrestrial landscapes, or natural habitats. An aquascaping aquarium contains few or no fish and invertebrates. This reduces the supply of nutrients to the plants and limits their growth. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and other minerals become scarce and must be specifically replenished. For healthy plant growth in a beautiful underwater landscape, plants need light, CO₂, and the right nutrients. Rich in minerals, ProScape Soils are specialized substrates that have been specifically tailored to the needs of aquascapers. These soils are not water-neutral but have a water-softening effect. They soften the water and slightly acidify it, so that the pH value shifts into the slightly acidic range. JBL Plant-Soils are highly nutrient-rich to immediately supply plants with nutrients and minerals, while ShrimpsSoils are lower in nutrients. Usage: Rinse the substrate briefly under tap water to remove any abrasion caused by transport. To prevent mineral buildup in the water, perform a 50% water change every 2–3 days during the first two weeks after adding the substrate. Since the effect on water parameters depends on the source water and the intervals between water changes, the water-softening effect diminishes over time.
