Usage: For new freshwater setups: once a week. For new saltwater setups: once a week
For green algae problems

A healthy aquarium or pond with conditions
close to nature The correct water parameters in an aquarium or pond depend on the fish population and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it may still be contaminated. If water parameters are poor, diseases or algae can develop in the aquarium or pond. For a healthy aquarium or pond with conditions close to nature, it is important to regularly monitor and adjust the water parameters. For every water analysis, JBL offers water tests in the form of rapid tests or color-change tests. These determine a specific parameter or multiple parameters simultaneously. With these water tests, algae problems can be detected and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, and magnesium levels, among others, can be identified. Why test? Nitrate is the end product of mineralization in the aquarium or pond and is non-toxic to fish even at relatively high concentrations; however, it has a negative effect on plant growth and the well-being of some fish species. Excessively high nitrate levels also promote unwanted algae growth if phosphate is present in the water in addition to nitrate. Recommended nitrate levels: Freshwater aquariums (community tanks): 0–50 mg/l; Malawi and Lake Tanganyika aquariums: 0–50 mg/l; Planted aquariums with few fish (aquascaping): 10–30 mg/l; Marine aquariums: 0–20 mg/l; Ponds: 0–10 mg/l
