A healthy aquarium or pond with conditions
close to nature The correct water parameters in an aquarium or pond depend on the fish population and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it may still be contaminated. If the parameters are poor, diseases or algae can develop in the aquarium or pond. To maintain a healthy aquarium or pond with conditions close to nature, it is important to regularly monitor and adjust the water parameters. For every water analysis, JBL offers water tests in the form of rapid tests or color-change tests. These determine a specific parameter or multiple parameters simultaneously. With these water tests, algae problems can be detected and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, and magnesium levels, among others, can be identified. Why test? Maintaining a suitable KH level as consistently as possible is essential for the well-being of aquarium and pond inhabitants, as well as for the healthy growth of aquatic plants. Carbonate hardness is one of the most important water parameters, as it helps stabilize the pH level. KH should never fall below 4 °dKH. JBL Online Lab: Regular monitoring for a healthy aquarium or pond with conditions close to nature. Enter your water values in the JBL Online Lab and receive a detailed analysis of your results in a matter of seconds. Recommended KH levels: Freshwater aquarium (community tank): 5–12 °dKH; Malawi and Lake Tanganyika aquariums: 7–20 °dKH; Planted aquariums with few fish (aquascaping): 3–8 °dKH Marine aquariums: 7–10 °dKH Ponds: 7–10 °dKH
