Fish and invertebrates should feel just as comfortable in the aquarium as they do in nature. Prepare the aquarium water to match the natural habitat and protect the aquarium inhabitants. Clean aquarium water—optimal water quality. The natural compounds in the sea almond leaves (Catappa) have many proven beneficial properties for aquarium inhabitants, including tannins. After 1–2 days, the leaves sink to the bottom. After 1–3 weeks, the active ingredients are fully released. At that point, a new leaf can be added. Older leaves can be removed or left in the aquarium as supplemental food for sucker catfish and shrimp. They have an indefinite shelf life when stored in a dry place.
