Magnesium Liquid

Provides all invertebrates with essential magnesium. Optimizes the concentration ratio between Ca and Mg and promotes coral skeletal development. Supports calcareous algae growth. Enriched with essential bicarbonate. Suitable for dosing pumps. Contains 100,000 mg of Mg. 

Dosage:
10 ml increases the magnesium content by 10 mg per 100 l. The magnesium content should be between 1,300 mg and 1,350 mg.

The main elements—magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and hydrogen carbonate (HCO₃)—have a decisive influence on water stability (pH, alkalinity/carbonate hardness) in reef aquariums. Magnesium is involved in many biological functions and, together with calcium, is stored in the skeletons of some corals, many invertebrates, calcareous red algae, and higher algae. Magnesium Liquid replenishes magnesium consumption in the reef aquarium and helps maintain the concentration ratio of the main elements in the correct ionic balance. Magnesium plays an important role as a calcification inhibitor by increasing the solubility of calcium carbonate through the prevention of calcite formation.

The magnesium content in natural seawater is approximately 1,300–1,350 mg/l, which is about three times higher than the calcium content. Magnesium is a mineral chemically similar to calcium but is consumed at a lower rate in a marine aquarium. Among the largest consumers of magnesium are calcareous algae, in whose calcite structure magnesium is “incorporated.” Some soft corals and gorgonians (e.g., fan corals) are also magnesium consumers. Magnesium also plays an important role in aquariums as a calcification inhibitor. It increases the solubility of calcium carbonate by preventing the formation of calcite.

Simply put: Magnesium keeps calcium in solution longer. Since calcium and magnesium are consumed in every saltwater aquarium, magnesium must be added to restore the correct concentration ratio between these alkaline earth metals.
Power Magnesium and Magnesium Liquid also help prevent magnesium deficiency. One dosing spoon of Power Magnesium increases the magnesium content by 10 mg/100 l. Magnesium Liquid is suitable for dosing pumps. 10 ml increases the magnesium content by 5 mg/100 l.
But be careful: A magnesium level that is too high—1,500 mg or 1,600 mg—can harm the animals over time. When adding minerals to a saltwater aquarium, always keep in mind: More isn’t always better and can sometimes even have the opposite effect.
