Controllable DC return pump

The D-D Function DC Pump is a controllable direct-current return pump. It is driven by sine-wave technology and a low-voltage motor: according to D-D, this results in extremely low operating noise, low heat output and high energy efficiency. The shaft and bearings are made of wear- and corrosion-resistant ceramic. The series comprises seven models from FP2000 to FP20000, i.e. from 2,000 to 20,000 litres per hour. You will find the exact flow rates, heads and power ratings for each model in the technical data.

Four modes via the digital controller

The pump is operated via a digital controller with a touch panel and a backlit colour LCD display. You choose between four modes: Pump for constant flow, and Wave, Pulse and Storm for different flow patterns. You set the output from 30 to 100 percent. There is also a feeding mode and dry-run detection, which switches the pump off automatically if it runs dry.

How to install it

All models in the range are fully submersible to a depth of 1.5 metres and work in the sump or in the aquarium itself. According to the manual, only the models from 5000 upwards can be mounted externally and run in a closed loop. The outlet can point up, left or right.

Before installation

The Function pumps are not self-priming: install them below the water level and prime them before switching on.

The pumps are not self-priming. Place them below the water level and prime them before switching on. If the pump runs dry or draws air, this can damage the motor and impeller.

Mounting the controller and caring for the pump

The controller and its connections are not waterproof. Mount it in a dry place, away from high humidity and splash water. You fix the supplied bracket with screws or adhesive pads. If you use adhesive pads, hang the controller so that it cannot fall into the water should the pads come loose. If limescale builds up on the impeller, soak it in a suitable acidic cleaning solution. Sharp objects and abrasive cleaners can damage the pump and, according to D-D, void the warranty.

Advantages

  • Four modes via the controller: You choose Pump, Wave, Pulse and Storm and set the output from 30 to 100 percent.

  • Quiet sine-wave drive: According to D-D, the pumps run extremely quietly with sine-wave technology, give off little heat and work energy-efficiently.

  • Ceramic shaft and bearings: The shaft and bearings are made of wear- and corrosion-resistant ceramic.

  • Dry-run protection: If the pump runs dry, it switches itself off via the dry-run detection.

  • Seven sizes: From 2,000 to 20,000 litres per hour, you will find the right pump for your tank.

Area of application

  • Return and media reactors: The pumps work as a return pump and on a media reactor or filter.

  • Closed loop from 5000: According to the manufacturer, only the models from 5000 upwards can be mounted externally and run in a closed loop.

  • Saltwater and freshwater: The manufacturer approves the range for both, submersible to a depth of 1.5 metres.

  • Model to suit your needs: Seven models from 2,000 to 20,000 litres per hour; choose the right one based on the flow rate and head you need.
