Dupla Zeolite for Aquariums
Recommendation: Use in a mesh bag
Solid natural stone with many pores, cavities, and channels
Acts as an adsorbent—attracts environmental toxins and decay products
Promotes rapid bacterial growth
inhibits algae growth
A solid natural stone with many pores, cavities, and channels. Zeoltih acts as an adsorbent, meaning that environmental toxins and decay products are electrostatically attracted to and trapped by the cavity system. Zeoltih promotes rapid bacterial growth, inhibits algae growth, and serves as an ion exchanger and catalyst.
Beneficial Mode of Action—Zeolite in the Aquarium
Acts as an adsorbent, meaning environmental toxins are bound within the cavities through electrostatic
attractionlowers the phosphate content
stores excess nutrients and decomposition products in microfine pores
promotes rapid bacterial growth, which quickly breaks down organic pollutants
Regulates the biological balance and makes the water clear and toxin-free
1 kg of zeolite is effective in a 500-liter aquarium with a moderate fish population for approximately 3 months
Frequently Asked Questions About Zeolite in Aquariums
Can zeolite be used in saltwater aquariums?
HOBBY zeolite is over 80% pure clinop zeolite. Of the approximately 30 different types of zeolite, this one is the most effective due to its unique crystal structure. The purity and processing of HOBBY Zeolite specifically determine the ion-exchange sequence. This is why HOBBY Zeolite binds harmful ammonium ions even when beneficial substances such as potassium and sodium ions are present, as is the case in seawater. The pore size of 4 angstroms (4 millionths of a millimeter) is also ideal for binding the ammonium ion through electrostatic attraction. HOBBY zeolite contains no silicic acid and can be used in seawater without hesitation.
Is it true that fewer bacteria colonize zeolite than sintered glass?
Filter media cannot be compared with one another without taking their different modes of action into account. Zeolite promotes the rapid growth of denitrifying bacteria, which bind and break down organic waste products from plants or fish excrement. There are certainly filter media that provide these specific bacteria with even more surface area for colonization. However, zeolite acts primarily as a catalyst and ion exchanger. It adsorbs environmental toxins and decay products, binds phosphate and, above all, ammonium, and inhibits algae growth.
